Sports Premium 2023-24

Since the introduction of the Schools Sports Premium in 2013 our PE provision has gone from strength to strength. As a result, we have achieved Gold School Games Mark five times and the Platinum mark twice.

Engagement in regular physical activity

We have ensured that we continue to embed opportunities for children to be active throughout the day and achieve at least their 30 minutes of activity through:

  • Providing lunchtime activities delivered by our Y6 Play Leaders and lunchtime supervisors
  • Our Active Minutes programme where all classes take part in a range of extra activities throughout the week to keep them moving
  • Maths of the Day and other active learning activities which are incorporated throughout the school day
  • A broad extra-curricular offer of over 30 different clubs across the year, including over 20 sports clubs catering to a range of interests, such as football, lacrosse, netball and cheerleading.

Profile of PE and School Sport

The profile of PE and School Sport has been raised through:

  • Providing leadership opportunities for the children such as Play Leaders
  • Purchase of staff kit
  • Updating pupil’s kit to reflect the value we place upon PE
  • Providing a range of high quality resources to ensure access and ambition for all
  • Giving opportunities for parents to engage alongside their children, such as through our @ColmorePe Twitter feed and our #ColmoreChallenge and at running club where they can walk/jog or run with their children and staff

Staff confidence and expertise

The confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport has been raised through:

  • Working alongside coaches from a range of clubs including Warwickshire Cricket board, Wasps, Kings Heath Cricket Club and Billesley Tennis Centre.
  • Team teaching with our PE  Subject Lead.

Experience of a broad range of sports and activities

We have given all pupils experience of a broad range of sports and activities by:

  • Introducing new sports such as sitting volleyball, dodgeball and ultimate frisbee
  • Working with local clubs including Warwickshire Cricket club, offering Bikeability, cycling proficiency, and Swim Safe, including catch-up sessions for Year 6 children who were unable to go swimming in earlier year groups due to the Covid lockdowns.

Participation in competitive sport

We have increased participation in competitive sport through:

  • Providing opportunities for the children to compete in school tournaments in year groups and across the school in inter-house tournaments,
  • Providing opportunities for the children to compete out of school through the School Games Programme and other local leagues, including both girls and boys football.
