Support for Families

Throughout the year, we are often approached by parents seeking help, support or advice relating to a variety of issues. We want to assist as early and as best as we can, so as a useful starting point please explore this page for information, links and signposting to the additional support that is currently available.  For further advice please contact us directly to see what additional help and support we can offer. 

 

General Support

 

 

Birmingham City Council offer a range of supportive services to families post Covid including support with mental health, finance, domestic abuse, substance abuse and bereavement. They also offer free parenting courses on a wide range of topics. From Birmingham with Love

Help in Brum - signposts wide range of support services 

The Waiting Room offers a directory of services covering a wide range of early help needs across Birmingham and Solihull.

Birmingham City Council Cost of Living Support 

The Project is a local based support centre offering support with the following: Money and Debt Advice, Housing and Homeless Prevention, Welfare Benefits Support, Employment Support, Crisis Support

Stop Loan Sharks offers advice and support relating to illegal money lenders in the UK 

National Energy Action offers advice and guidance if you are struggling with your energy bills.   They offer electricity energy saving tips and other support.

If you are at risk of becoming homeless or financially vulnerable in terms of your accommodation, advice and support is available through a variety of services - Homelessness and financially vulnerable families signposting information. 

In addition school is able to issue foodbank vouchers to those families experiencing difficulties or hardships and needing additional support.  More information about foodbanks can be found at https://www.findfoodbanksbrum.org.uk/about-us/directory/

Mental Health & Wellbeing

 

 

 

Pause offers drop in centres in Digbeth and Sparkbrook linked to Forward Thinking Birmingham and offering mental heath advice and guidance quickly.  Parents are able to self refer children as long as they have a Birmingham GP and consultations can take place in a variety of ways including online, telephone and face to face. 

Kooth provides online support groups and discussions for young people

Young Minds offers mental health support for parents and young people

The #You'vebeenmissed campaign provides parents with a wide variety of resources to use with their children especially when their child may be struggling with coming into school.

Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Support

Forward Thinking Birmingham - the city's mental health partnership for 0-25 year olds in need of a variety of support and intervention

As a school we are delighted to be part of our local mental health support team hub and can submit referrals to known Education Mental Health Practitioners who are happy to support pupils and/or parents with mental health issues.  

Bereavement Support - a wide range of sources of support for those struggling with loss or bereavement.  Edward's Trust and Beyond the Horizon offer specific bereavement support for children.

Our school nurse team offers a virtual drop-in clinic as well as a text message based support service.  School can submit referrals or parents can contact them directly.

There are a variety of charities and organisations that will support victims of domestic abuse and offer both practical and emotional support.

 Birmingham Safeguarding Children's Partnership have issued their updated threshold document 'Right Help Right Time' which offers guidance and support about different levels of support.  Please click here to access the new guidance.
